Braskem S.A. (Braskem), incorporated on January 12, 1972, produces thermoplastic resins. The Company's segments are Basic petrochemicals, Polyolefins, Vinyls, the United States and Europe, and Chemical distribution. Braskem is also engaged in the import and export of chemicals, petrochemicals and fuels, the production, supply and sale of utilities such as steam, water, compressed air, industrial gases, as well as the provision of industrial services and the production, supply and sale of electric energy for its own use and use by other companies. Braskem also invests in other companies, either as a partner or as shareholder. It operates over 40 industrial units, over 30 of which are located in the Brazilian states of Alagoas (AL), Bahia (BA), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Rio Grande do Sul (RS) and Sao Paulo (SP); over five are located in the United States, in the states of Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia, and over two are located in Germany, in the cities of Wesseling and Schkopau. These units produce thermoplastic resins-polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC), as well as basic petrochemicals.
Basic Petrochemicals
The Company's Basic petrochemicals segment comprises the activities related to the production of ethylene, propylene butadiene, toluene, xylene, cumene and benzene, as well as gasoline, diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and other petroleum derivatives. The segment is also engaged in the supply of electric energy, steam, compressed air and other inputs to second-generation producers located in the Camacari, Triunfo, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro petrochemical complexes.
Polyolefins
The Company's Polyolefins segment comprises the activities related to the production of PE and PP. The Company has PE and PP plants, which are located in Brazil.
Vinyls
The Company's Vinyls segment comprises the activities related to the production of PVC, caustic soda and chloride. The Company has PVC plants and chloride soda located in Brazil.
United States and Europe
The Company's United States and Europe segment includes operations related to PP production in the United States and Europe, through subsidiaries Braskem America, Inc. (Braskem America) and Braskem Europe GmbH (Braskem Alemanha), respectively. The Company has PP plants located in the United States and in Germany.
Chemical distribution
The Company's Chemical distribution segment consists of the operations of its subsidiary, Quantiq Distribuidora Ltda. (Quantiq). It also includes the assets of IQAG Armazens Gerais Ltda (IQAG). Quantiq's operations include the distribution of petroleum-based solvents, intermediate chemicals, special chemicals and pharmacons.
