The services for its Multifamily segment include primarily rental of apartments and other tenant services, including parking and storage space rental. It focuses on owning, acquiring developing and managing a substantial share of office properties and multifamily communities in neighborhoods. Through its interest in Douglas Emmett Properties, LP (operating partnership) and its subsidiaries, its consolidated joint ventures (JVs), its unconsolidated institutional real estate funds (Funds), it owns or partially owns, acquires, develops and manages real estate, consisting primarily of office and multifamily properties.
As of December 31, 2016, the Company owned a consolidated portfolio of 59 office properties (including ancillary retail space) totaling approximately 15.9 million rentable square feet, which included seven office properties owned by its consolidated JVs; 10 multifamily properties containing 3,320 apartment units, and the fee interests in two parcels of land subject to ground leases. Alongside its consolidated portfolio, it also manages and owns equity interests in its unconsolidated Funds, which, as of December 31, 2016, owned eight additional office properties totaling approximately 1.8 million square feet of space. The Company manages these properties alongside its consolidated portfolio. The Company's properties are located in the Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Burbank, Century City, Olympic Corridor, Santa Monica, Sherman Oaks/Encino, Warner Center/Woodland Hills and Westwood submarkets of Los Angeles County, California, and in Honolulu, Hawaii.
