Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd., incorporated on June 15, 1996, is a telecommunications service provider in Taiwan. The Company's segments include Domestic fixed communications business, Mobile communications business, Internet business, International fixed communications business and Others. The Company also focuses on selected information and communication technology (ICT) services and advanced developments. In addition to developing ICT businesses, it also pursues ICT projects from both public and private sectors.

Domestic Fixed Communications Business

The domestic fixed communications business segment is engaged in the provision of local telephone services, domestic long distance telephone services, broadband access and related services. The Company's domestic fixed communications business includes local and domestic long distance leased line services, wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) services, multimedia on demand services, and other domestic services, including ICT, corporate solution services, cloud computing services and bill handling services. The Company also provides leased lines to other mobile and fixed-line service operators for interconnection with its fixed-line network and for connection within their networks. The Company offers value-added services (VAS) services, including call waiting, caller identification, call forwarding, three-party calls, ring back tone and voicemail.

The Company provides intelligent network services over its domestic long distance network, including toll-free calling and virtual private networks (VPN), services and others. The Company provides broadband Internet access through connections based on its Fiber to the x (FTTX) and asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) technologies. Its FTTx service offers downlink speeds of over six, 20, 60, 100, 300 and 600 megabits per second (mbps) matched with uplink speeds of approximately two, five, 20, 40, 100, 250 and 600 mbps, respectively. Its ADSL service offers downlink speeds that range from 2 mbps to 8 mbps and uplink speeds that range from 64 kilobits per second (Kbps) to 640 Kbps.

The Company provides domestic leased line services in Taiwan. Leased line services involve offering exclusive lines that allow point-to-point connection for voice and data traffic. Leased lines are used by business customers to assemble their own private networks and by telecommunications service providers to establish networks to offer telecommunications services. It provides data transmission services to corporate customers in Taiwan. It also provides leased lines to other mobile and fixed-line service operators for interconnection with its fixed-line network and for connection within their networks.

The Company has a total of approximately 2.4 million residential and business customers that leased its access points. In addition, it has established over 55,000 hot spots in public areas, such as convenience stores, airports and international convention centers, where its smartphone subscribers can access their Wi-Fi network and help to offload mobile data network traffic. Using video streaming technology through a set-top box that connects to its FTTx and ADSL data connections, its multimedia on demand (MOD) customers can access television programs, video-on-demand and other services. It has over 200 broadcasting channels and over 20,000 hours of on-demand programs and serves approximately 1.3 million customers. It offers over 150 high definition (HD) channels and other HD video-on-demand programming, such as sports, movies and knowledge materials.

Mobile Communications Business

The Company offers mobile services in Taiwan. The mobile communications business segment is engaged in the provision of mobile services, sales of mobile handsets and data cards, and related services. Its third generation roaming contracts include over 270 networks in approximately 100 countries, as well as its second-generation global system for mobile communications (GSM) roaming contracts include over 460 networks in approximately 200 countries, and its 2.5G general packet-switched radio services (GPRS) roaming contracts include over 390 networks in approximately 150 countries.

The Company offers an international roaming network. It has also established fourth generation long term evaluation (LTE) roaming contracts with over 70 networks in approximately 50 countries. The Company offers prepaid card and prepaid third generation card services. The Company has approximately 1.7 million prepaid customers. It is involved in the distribution and sales of mobile handsets, tablets and data cards for use on its mobile network to customers through its directly owned stores, its subsidiary Senao International Co., Ltd., and also through third-party retailers. Its other mobile services include ICT services, corporate solution and bill handling services.

Internet Business

The Internet business segment is engaged in the provision of HiNet services and related services. The Company's Internet business includes its Internet service provider, Internet VAS, data communication services, Internet data center (IDC), services, and ICT and other Internet services. HiNet has approximately 4.2 million subscribers. The Company's HiNet portal at www.hinet.net provides VAS to its customers, such as network security, Blog, travel, games, e-learning, financial information, music, video, anti-virus and links to other portals. Its Internet video portal at www.hichannel.hinet.net offers online entertainment services through the Internet. In particular, its HiNet broadband (FTTx and ADSL) subscribers can access music, television programs, movies and other multimedia content on demand.

The Company provides a range of managed data services, including frame relay services, asynchronous transfer mode services, and VPN services. Frame relay services provide data communications linking remote sites. Asynchronous transfer mode services are used to handle high-bandwidth, integrated voice, video, data and Internet traffic between sites. IDCs are facilities providing the physical environment necessary to keep computer network servers running at all times. These facilities are custom-designed with air conditioning temperature control systems, secure access, reliable electricity supply and connections to high-bandwidth Internet networks. Data centers house, protect and maintain network server computers that store and deliver Internet and other network content, such as Website pages, applications and data. It offers co-location, Website hosting and application service provider services.

International Fixed Communications Business

The Company's international fixed communications business includes international long distance telephone services, international leased line services, international data services, satellite services, and ICT and other international services. The Company provides international long distance telephone services in Taiwan. It provides wholesale international long distance services to international simple resale operators that do not possess their own telephone network or infrastructure. Its international long distance services consist primarily of international direct dial services and the wholesale of international long distance traffic. It also provides data transmission services to corporate customers in Taiwan. Its international data services include international Internet protocol virtual private network (IP VPN) services and Taiwan Internet gateway services. It has over two satellite communication centers that enable it to provide television broadcast, satellite VAS and backup systems for use in emergencies. It also provides satellite services to Southeast Asia.

Others

The others segment is engaged in the provision of non-telecom services and the corporate related items. The other business segment includes its non-telecom services, including property sales made by its subsidiary, Light Era Development Co., Ltd., and electronic products sales made by its subsidiary, Chunghwa Precision Test Tech Co., Ltd. Its ICT service includes integrated services, such as intelligent energy network (iEN), intelligent transportation system (ITS) and Internet of vehicles. Its iEN service helps companies and corporations implement energy saving measures through computer analysis of data. Its ITS service provides navigation, real-time traffic information and infotainment through mobile devices for cars and drivers. The Company offers Internet of vehicles services, including global positioning system (GPS), audio and video streaming, and car information.
