The primary endpoint of the Phase IIa study was based on ophthalmic and systemic safety, and secondary endpoints included retinal thickness (which can be a sign of reoccurrence of fluid in the retina), visual acuity and the need for anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy in the form of rescue injections with ranibizumab. The Phase IIa clinical study met its 12-month primary endpoint, demonstrating that AVA-101 was tolerated with a safety profile in subjects with the wet AMD. The Company is conducting additional preclinical studies to inform further development of its wet AMD program. In addition to AVA-101, the Company is working on other product candidates for the treatment of ophthalmic diseases, including AVA-201, AVA-311, and AVA-322 and AVA-323.
