IDT Corporation, incorporated on December 22, 1995, is a holding company with operations primarily in the telecommunications and payment industries. The Company's segments include Telecom Platform Services, Consumer Phone Services and All Other. The Company's Telecom Platform Services segment provides retail telecommunications and payment offerings, as well as wholesale international long distance traffic termination. The Company's Consumer Phone Services segment provides consumer local and long distance services in certain states of the United States. The Telecom Platform Services and Consumer Phone Services segments comprise the Company's IDT Telecom division. The All Other segment includes its real estate holdings and other smaller businesses.
Telecom Platform Services
The Telecom Platform Services segment markets and distributes multiple communications and payment services across four businesses: Retail Communications, Wholesale Carrier Services, Payment Services and Hosted Platform Solutions. The Retail Communications business provides international long-distance calling products primarily to foreign-born communities around the world with its core markets in the United States. The Wholesale Carrier Services business is a global telecom carrier, terminating international long distance calls around the world for Tier 1 fixed line and mobile network operators, as well as other service providers. The Payment Services business provides payment offerings, including international and domestic airtime top-up and international money transfer. The Hosted Platform Solutions business provides customized communications services that leverage its networks, platforms and/or technology to cable companies and other service providers.
The Company's Retail Communications business includes Boss Revolution PIN-less international calling service. Boss Revolution PIN-less allows users to call their families and friends overseas without the need to enter a personal identification number (PIN). The Company's platform recognizes the user's network-provided automatic number identification (ANI) and links each call to the corresponding Boss Revolution account. The callers then enter their destination phone numbers. In the United States, the Company distributes its retail products through its network of distributors that, either directly or through sub-distributors, sells to retail locations. In addition, its internal sales force sells Boss Revolution platform products to retailers. The Boss Revolution mobile application is also available for download through both the iTunes and Google Play stores. The Boss Revolution retailer portal enables retailers to create accounts for new customers, add funds to existing customer balances and execute sales transactions for the various products and services available on the portal. The Boss Revolution retailer portal also provides a direct, real-time interface with the Company's retailers.
As of July 31, 2016, the Company's Wholesale Carrier Services terminated international telecommunications traffic in more than 170 countries around the world. As of July 31, 2016, IDT Telecom terminated 28.3 billion minutes. The Payment Services business includes international airtime top-up. Other products and services in the Payment Services business include domestic airtime top-up, gift cards sold in the United States and Europe, domestic bill pay service, its international money transfer service and the operations of its Gibraltar-based bank. The Payment Services business also includes reloadable prepaid debit cards marketed in Europe and Bank Identification Number (BIN) sponsorship services offered by its Gibraltar-based bank. The Company's international airtime top-up products enable customers to purchase minutes for a prepaid mobile telephone in another Country. These are sold both over its Boss Revolution platform and in hard card format. Its international airtime top-up offerings focus on geographic corridors, such as the United States to various Central American countries.
The Company's Hosted Platform Solutions business includes voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) products and services sold under the Net2Phone brand. Net2Phone's channel-based business focuses primarily on the Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) enterprise market place. Hosted Platform Solution' offerings are delivered through several channels, including cable operators, value-added reseller (VARs), and international service providers under the reseller vertical. Its VoIP-based offerings include cloud-based telephony and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunking services. In Europe, it markets its Retail Communications products in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway and Austria. Its operations in Europe also include Wholesale Carrier Services. It maintains its European corporate, Retail Communications and Wholesale Carrier Services operations in London, England. It also operates satellite offices in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Ireland and Greece. In Asia, it sells Retail Communications products in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan and Malaysia. In Asia, it also sells postpaid services direct to consumers and small businesses. In Latin America, it markets Retail Communications products in Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Chile and Uruguay. In addition, it offers post-paid phone services in Brazil to consumers and small businesses. The Company offers applications, including call routing and rating, customer provisioning, call management, e-commerce sites, product Webpages, calling card features, and payment services features.
Consumer Phone Services
The Consumer Phone Services segment includes bundled local/long distance phone service. As of July 31, 2016, the Company provided bundled local/long distance phone service in over 11 states, marketed under the brand name IDT America. The Company's bundled local/long distance service, offered predominantly to residential customers, includes unlimited local, regional toll and domestic long distance calling and other calling features. At July 31, 2016, the Company had approximately 4,200 customers for its bundled local/long distance plans and approximately 18,100 customers for its long distance-only plans.
The Company competes with T Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, Telefonica, France Telecom, KDDI, Sprint, Western Union, MoneyGram, Vonage Business, Nextiva and Ring Central.
